Day Seven: Ready to design your practice?

Design solves problems.

When I design a landscape, I draw lines on paper, placing trees, fences, paths, and other components in relationships to each other. I add layers of observations and analysis, and we synthesize everything into a concise, specific timeline of action.


Today we’ll do something similar with your daily practice design, but with more of a streamlined approach. Because you don’t need an extended timeline and layers of plans for your daily practice. You already know the timeline: every day!


​But what you do need is a clear, articulation of your goals, boundaries, and intentions--something you can hang on the wall as a guide and reminder.

Here’s what my own Daily Practice Design looks like.

It lists the actions I want to take, how long I want to spend on them, and gives me some mantras and reminders about why I chose these actions.


(Hint: it was based on my goals, observations, boundaries, resources, and analysis.)

Yours will look different than mine! Use mine as an example, not as a template. It's important that you design something that is uniquely yours, and that you feel deeply connected to.

Maybe, to you, my practice looks like a fantasy life. But to me, it's a serious set of goals and objectives that I have been working toward for many years. It started with 45 minutes and a cucumber smoothie in a moldy shack in Portland. 


Now that you’ve come through the process of setting goals, observing yourself, identifying resources, articulating boundaries, zones, and sectors, and thinking it all through...you should have a very similar list of things you want to incorporate more seamlessly into your daily life.


It’s likely that your list includes a lot of the same core elements as my own: plants, art, stories, dancing...yes! This path leads to abundance.

These activities heal trauma and stimulate creativity.


​But, if your design ended up in a whole different direction, don't worry about it. The most important part of all of this is that you choose the practice that works for YOU, and that pushes you toward your goals, whatever they may be.
