HEATHER COBURN FLORES

A writer, teacher, artist, innovator, and organic landscape designer, Heather C. Flores brings a well-balanced blend of practical skills and creative ingenuity to a wide array of projects. From the written word to the living plant, her fresh attitude, tested techniques, and eye for aesthetics are sure to get the job done with confidence, accuracy, and lasting, sustainable charm. Heather's skills stem from nearly 20 years of work in the Oregon sustainability movement, where she applied her interests in agriculture, literature, and visual and performing arts toward community-building projects such as independent publications, skill-sharing events, urban food programs, and educational works of art. Adaptable, resourceful, and communicative, she works well on her own or as part of a team.

Design for Community; intensive workshops commissioned byEvergreen State College, San Francisco’s Garden for the Environment, The Center for Urban Agriculture at Fairview Gardens, Claremont Colleges and The Oregon Council for the Humanities.
Permaculture, Ecological Garden Design, and related topics; formats vary. Classes taught through Occidental Arts and Ecology Center, Esalen Institute, Cascadia Permaculture Institute, Tunitas Creek Ranch, Portland State University.


Agricultural Projects:

Co-Evolutionary Kinship Garden, representing 500 species of plants. Served as classroom space for adult permaculture students and elementary school tours. 2 acres on River's Turn Organic Farm, Coburg, OR 2003-2010.

Paraiso, at Flamenco Romantico Academy. Redesigned an ugly 1970's landscape to integrate organically-grown edibles, medicinals, and Native plants. 4 acres in Soquel, CA 2007-2008.

Food Not Lawns Community Garden. An urban demonstration garden representing 150 species of edible and medicinal plants and trees, on 1/8 acre shared by several houses and a city park in Eugene, OR 1999-2003.
